More about Vintage Navitimer 806 SS Circa 1966
This is a vintage c.1966 stainless-steel Breitling Navitimer 806. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel-tang buckle, a domed acrylic crystal, and round chronograph pushbuttons. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, revolving knurled slide rule bezel, lapidated downturned lugs, and solid case back are polished/brushed. The dial is black with silver "pie tin" subsidiary dials with concentric circular guilloche, rectangular steel baton hour indexes, and an Arabic numeral 12 and with even tritium lume. It has luminous pointed steel baton hands, an arrow-tipped center sweep second hand, and outer graduations for the minutes/seconds, the tachymeter, the telemeter, and the slide-rule. There is a constant small running second subsidiary dial at the 9 o'clock position, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute chronograph counter is at 3 o'clock. It has a 1 meter/3 feet water resistance, it has a 45-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Breitling Navitimer 806 has a mechanical manual winding Venus caliber 178 column wheel chronograph movement. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber system, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. It includes a monometallic balance, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). The Breitling Navitimer 806 was introduced in 1963 and it was produced until 1973. Breitling introduced the Chronomat, the world's first slide rule chronograph, in the early 1940's.
