This is a 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe Amagnetic 2570. It's a manual wind with an inner gilt iron antimagnetic protection cap. The solid, two-piece case is thin at 10mm, with a screw-on back and a silver dial with a subsidiary seconds sub-dial, applied gold numerals and bar markers. There are silver dot minute markers around the periphery and gold baton hands. The Caliber 12-400 movement has 18 jewels, a bronze-beryllium straight-line lever escapement and nickel bridge, and a monometallic balance with gold timing screws adjusted to cold, heat, isochronism and 5 positions. There is a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and the movement, dial, and case are signed. This model was made for Gubelin in the late 1950's, engineered by Patek Philippe for scientists and technicians who worked near magnetic fields. It made its debut in 1956 as a specialty watch; it had a gold lever enabling it to withstand and stay accurate near high magnetic fields. This was a favored watch with the early pioneers of the space program. This example was made in 1959.
